About the Stiebel Eltron WWK 302H 302L

The Stiebel Eltron WWK 302H uses heat pump technology to capture heat from surrounding air and transfer that energy into stored hot water.

Heat Pump Hot Water Technology

The Stiebel Eltron WWK 302H uses heat pump technology to generate domestic hot water using heat captured from surrounding air.

Instead of relying primarily on direct electric heating, the system transfers ambient heat into stored water inside the cylinder.

Actual performance depends on:

  • ambient temperature

  • installation quality

  • airflow

  • operating settings

  • household demand

  • tariff configuration

  • usage patterns

H-Model Smart Element Recovery Support

The WWK 302H includes a built-in 1.7 kW smart element positioned near the upper section of the cylinder.

During heavier periods of hot water demand, the smart element can assist the heat pump by heating approximately the upper portion of stored water.

This recovery support is the key difference between the WWK 302H and the standard WWK 302.

Households wanting stronger recovery assistance may prefer the H-model.

Efficient Heat Pump Performance

The WWK 302H has a listed seasonal COP of 3.58.

COP measures heat output relative to electrical input under controlled testing conditions.

Real-world efficiency depends on installation conditions, climate, airflow, usage patterns and household demand.

Active Defrost Operation

The WWK 302H includes active defrost functionality to assist operation during colder weather conditions.

When frost develops on the evaporator, the defrost cycle helps clear frost build-up so the system can continue operating normally.

This supports operation down to a listed ambient temperature of -5°C.

Solar PV Compatibility

The Stiebel Eltron WWK 302H may be connected with compatible solar PV systems where configured correctly.

Depending on inverter setup and electrical configuration, solar integration may help households use more self-generated solar electricity for hot water production.

Solar compatibility should be checked before installation.

Indoor and Outdoor Installation

The WWK 302H may be installed indoors or outdoors where suitable.

Indoor installations require sufficient ventilation and airflow.

Outdoor installations require:

  • suitable drainage

  • weather exposure suitability

  • airflow clearances

  • access

  • base support

Stiebel Eltron lists a minimum outdoor clearance requirement of 500 mm either side of the grille.

Water Pressure and Drainage Requirements

The WWK 302H has a listed maximum permissible operating pressure of 850 kPa.

Water pressure should be checked before installation. Pressure limiting valves may still be required depending on site conditions and existing plumbing.

Heat pump systems also produce condensate during normal operation, requiring suitable drainage arrangements.

Additional plumbing or drainage work may apply depending on the installation setup.

STCs and Rebates

Heat pump hot water systems may be eligible for STCs or government incentive programs depending on:

  • installation location

  • installer eligibility

  • installation date

  • current program rules

Eligibility and rebate values can change and should be confirmed before purchase.

Rebates should not be treated as guaranteed unless confirmed during the installation process.

WWK 302 vs WWK 302H

The WWK 302 is the standard non-H model, while the WWK 302H includes a 1.7 kW smart element designed to assist hot water recovery.

The WWK 302H may suit households wanting:

  • stronger recovery support

  • larger stored capacity

  • higher-demand performance

The standard WWK 302 may still suit households not requiring smart element recovery assistance.

WWK 222H vs WWK 302H

The WWK 222H uses a 220L cylinder, while the WWK 302H uses a larger 302L cylinder.

The WWK 302H may suit:

  • larger households

  • homes with higher hot water demand

  • families wanting increased stored capacity

Both models include the H-model smart element recovery support feature.

WWK 302H vs Standard Electric Storage Hot Water

Traditional electric storage systems rely primarily on direct electric elements to heat water.

The WWK 302H instead uses heat pump technology as the primary heat source together with a 1.7 kW smart element for recovery support.

This may suit homeowners wanting:

  • lower electricity consumption potential

  • solar PV compatibility

  • stronger recovery performance

  • larger-capacity hot water storage

Standard electric storage systems may still suit properties where:

  • airflow is limited

  • space is restricted

  • drainage is difficult

  • electrical upgrades are impractical

Common Uses

Common applications for the Stiebel Eltron WWK 302H include:

  • Electric storage hot water replacement

  • Heat pump hot water upgrades

  • 302L hot water system replacement

  • Larger households

  • Family homes

  • Higher hot water usage properties

  • Homes needing additional recovery support

  • Homes with solar PV

  • Off-peak tariff households

  • Investment properties

  • Renovation projects

  • Energy-efficient hot water upgrades

  • Supply-only orders with existing licensed installers

    Tempering Valve and Element Information

    *Element size information:
All electric hot water units are supplied as standard with a 3.6kW element unless otherwise stated on the product page, invoice, or order confirmation.

If a different element configuration is requested, such as 1.8kW or 2.4kW, the hot water unit may still arrive with the standard 3.6kW element fitted from the manufacturer. The requested 1.8kW or 2.4kW element will be supplied separately with the order for installation by a suitably licensed electrical contractor or licensed electrical licence holder.

Any element changeover, electrical connection, disconnection, wiring, testing, or modification must be carried out by a licensed electrical contractor or licensed electrical licence holder. Elements must not be changed, connected, modified, or tested by an unlicensed person.

Alternative elements supplied for non-standard configurations may be generic replacement elements and may not be the same brand as the hot water unit unless specifically stated. Generic elements are supplied to suit the requested element size and electrical configuration, but final suitability must be checked by the licensed installer before installation.

1.8kW and 2.4kW elements supplied separately with a hot water unit include a 12-month supply-only parts warranty from the date of purchase, provided the element has been correctly installed by a licensed electrical contractor or licensed electrical licence holder and used under normal operating conditions.

This element warranty covers the replacement supply of the element only. It does not include labour, call-out fees, electrical work, plumbing work, fault finding, removal, reinstallation, testing, travel, downtime, damage caused by incorrect installation, or any other associated costs. Warranty may be declined where the element has been incorrectly installed, dry-fired, modified, damaged, connected to incorrect voltage or wiring, affected by power issues, used in unsuitable water conditions, or installed by an unlicensed person.

Proof of purchase, installer details, electrical licence details, photos, and/or return of the faulty element may be required before a warranty claim is approved.

    **Tempering valve information:
Where a hot water system is capable of delivering water above 50°C, a compliant tempering valve must be installed to control the temperature delivered to personal hygiene fixtures such as showers, baths, basins, and bathroom outlets. This helps reduce the risk of scalding and assists with meeting plumbing compliance requirements.

A tempering valve blends hot and cold water to deliver a safer controlled outlet temperature to required fixtures. The hot water unit itself may store water at a higher temperature, but the water delivered to personal hygiene outlets must be controlled where required by plumbing regulations.

If your property already has a suitable, compliant tempering valve installed, your licensed plumber can assess whether it is appropriate for use with the new hot water system. Existing valves may not always be suitable due to age, condition, compliance requirements, valve type, location, or system compatibility.

If a compliant tempering valve is not already installed, or if the existing valve is unsuitable, one must be supplied and installed by a licensed plumber as part of the hot water installation.

Tempering valves are not automatically included with every supply-only hot water unit unless specifically selected, listed as included, or purchased as part of a suitable valve kit. If a tempering valve is required, please purchase the appropriate valve kit with your order or arrange for your licensed installer to supply and install the correct tempering valve on site.

It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure the installation is completed by appropriately licensed trades and that all required valves, fittings, electrical work, plumbing work, and compliance requirements are allowed for as part of the installation.
