Emerald Energy Hot Water Range Explained
Emerald heat pumps use electricity to move heat from the surrounding air into stored water. Unlike a conventional electric storage system, the compressor does most of the heating work, with electric-element support available on applicable models for high demand or particular operating conditions.
220L, 270L and 320L E-Heater models with R290, inverter technology, Wi-Fi and multiple operating modes.
220L, 270L and 320L R290 models with Emerald App control and a simplified residential feature set.
Separate R290 outdoor unit and 300L storage tank for higher-demand or commercial-style applications.
Remote control, tank information, boost, energy monitoring and smart actions on supported models.
Emerald PRO 220L, 270L & 320L E-Heater Heat Pumps
The Emerald Energy PRO range currently sold by Hot Water Outlet is an all-in-one heat-pump platform in 220L, 270L and 320L capacities. Current E-Heater versions use R290 natural refrigerant, DC inverter compressor technology, an enamel inner tank, dual magnesium anodes, a microchannel heat exchanger, built-in Wi-Fi and a 1.6kW electric heating element.
These models provide Standard, Silent, Booster and E-Heater modes. Standard mode uses the heat pump for normal efficient heating. Silent mode reduces operating noise. Booster mode combines heat-pump output with the electric element for faster recovery, while E-Heater mode can use the electric element without the compressor when needed.
Emerald PRO 220L
The smallest current HWO PRO model. It is the starting point for lower-to-medium household demand where a more compact tank is preferred.
Emerald PRO 270L
The middle-capacity option. HWO’s current 270L specification lists 58L/hr standard recharge, 41L/hr Silent recharge and 108L/hr Booster recharge under stated test conditions.
Emerald PRO 320L
The largest current HWO PRO model. It provides 320L of storage for higher-use households and uses the same basic smart heat-pump and E-Heater concept.
R290 & DC Inverter
R290 has a very low global-warming potential. Inverter control allows the compressor and fan to vary output instead of running only at one fixed speed.
Emerald Select 220L, 270L & 320L
Emerald’s current public All-In-One Select range mirrors the familiar 220L, 270L and 320L sizing structure. Emerald positions Select as a straightforward residential heat-pump range for buyers who want efficient hot water, smart control and useful household features without paying for unnecessary complexity.
Select uses R290 refrigerant, a galvanised metal outer casing and Emerald App connectivity. Emerald lists sound pressure at 40dB measured from 3 metres under its stated test conditions and promotes app functions including tank-temperature viewing, hot-water-capacity information, boost and energy-use monitoring.
HWO’s current stocked Emerald products are PRO E-Heater models. Select is Emerald’s newer public residential family. Do not assume the two ranges have identical dimensions, electrical requirements, operating modes or warranty simply because they use the same 220L, 270L and 320L size labels.
Emerald 300L Split-System Heat Pump
Emerald also offers a split-system heat pump that separates the refrigeration unit from the storage tank. The HPRX300E-1 data sheet lists a 300L tank, R290 refrigerant, DC inverter rotary compressor, approximately 3.6kW heat-pump heating capacity under stated test conditions and an ambient operating range of about -15°C to 46°C.
A split system can be useful where separating the tank and compressor/fan section improves layout or suits a high-volume application. It also introduces refrigerant-pipe routing and different installation requirements compared with a one-piece all-in-one unit.
Separate Outdoor Unit
The refrigeration unit can be positioned separately from the tank within the manufacturer’s pipe-length and height-difference limits.
300L Storage
The split system uses a 300L tank, making it suitable for applications needing substantial stored hot water.
Higher-Demand Applications
Emerald describes this model as suitable for high-volume applications such as gyms, salons and cafes as well as installations where a split layout is preferred.
Different Installation Skill Set
A split heat pump is not simply a two-piece plumbing job. Refrigeration, electrical and plumbing requirements need to be completed by appropriately licensed trades.
Emerald App, Wi-Fi & Solar-PV Scheduling
Supported Emerald all-in-one heat pumps can connect to the Emerald App over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. Emerald’s current app material describes remote on/off control, live tank-temperature information, estimated hot-water capacity, boost control, energy-consumption information, activity logs and smart actions.
For homes with rooftop solar PV, scheduling the heat pump during periods of surplus daytime generation can increase self-consumption. The right schedule depends on household hot-water use, solar generation, electricity tariff and how much stored water is needed for the evening and following morning.
Tank Temperature
See the water-temperature reading in the app on supported systems without walking out to the heat pump.
Hot-Water Capacity
Supported models can provide an estimated available hot-water capacity percentage to help users understand remaining stored heat.
Smart Actions
Automations can schedule heating around preferred times, including daytime solar generation or off-peak electricity where appropriate.
Boost
Boost can be selected when additional hot-water recovery is needed. Exact operation depends on the heat-pump model and whether an electric element is fitted.
Standard, Silent, Booster & E-Heater Modes
| Mode | How it operates | When it can be useful | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | Normal heat-pump operation using compressor and fan. | Everyday efficient water heating. | Recovery is slower than combined Booster mode. |
| Silent | Reduces heat-pump output/fan operation for lower sound. | Noise-sensitive periods or locations. | Slower recovery than Standard mode. |
| Booster | Uses heat pump plus electric-element support on E-Heater models. | Heavy demand or faster recovery. | Uses more electrical input while boosting. |
| E-Heater | Uses the built-in electric element. | Backup or specific operating conditions. | Operates more like resistive electric heating while active. |
Should I Choose 220L, 270L or 320L?
Tank size should be based on actual hot-water demand rather than household count alone. A practical demand guide is around 40L per person per day for light use, 50L average, 65L high use and 80L very heavy use. Heat-pump recovery, operating schedule and back-to-back demand then determine how much reserve is sensible.
220L is the more compact choice, 270L adds useful reserve without stepping to the largest tank, and 320L suits heavier demand. If the existing system regularly runs out, simply replacing it with the same litre capacity may repeat the problem.
How the Main Emerald Heat Pump Options Compare
| Range | Format | Sizes | Key features | Main checks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PRO E-Heater | All-in-one | 220L / 270L / 320L | R290, inverter, Wi-Fi, 1.6kW element, Standard/Silent/Booster/E-Heater. | Capacity, dimensions, airflow, condensate, noise and electrical supply. |
| All-In-One Select | All-in-one | 220L / 270L / 320L | R290, app control, smart actions, 40dB at 3m under stated conditions. | Exact model specification, capacity, siting, drainage and current warranty. |
| 300L Split System | Separate tank + outdoor unit | 300L | R290, DC inverter, high-volume design, separate refrigeration unit. | Refrigerant pipe route, tank location, electrical supply and licensed installation. |
Replacing an Existing Hot Water System with Emerald Energy
Emerald heat pumps are commonly considered when replacing conventional electric storage, an older heat pump or in some cases gas hot water. The new system should be selected from actual household demand and site conditions rather than simply matching the old tank litres.
Record its capacity, energy source, age, dimensions and current electrical/plumbing arrangement.
Consider household size, shower duration, baths and whether the current system runs out.
Measure the space and confirm airflow, condensate drainage, base, electrical supply and noise-sensitive areas.
Compare 220L, 270L and 320L against actual demand and desired recovery margin.
Electric Storage to Emerald PRO
A common upgrade path. The site needs suitable airflow, condensate drainage and electrical supply in addition to the normal hot-water plumbing requirements.
Old Heat Pump to New Emerald
Check dimensions, water connections, power, condensate and tank volume. Two heat pumps with the same marketed litres are not automatically direct physical replacements.
220L to 270L
Useful when the household needs a moderate increase in stored reserve without moving to the full 320L footprint.
270L to 320L
Best considered when actual demand is high enough to justify another 50L of stored water and the site can accommodate the taller/larger unit.
Emerald Energy Heat Pump Rebates
Eligible Emerald heat pumps can create Small-scale Technology Certificates when the exact model and installation meet current scheme rules. State-based energy-efficiency incentives may also apply in some jurisdictions. Eligibility depends on the model, installation date, property, location, installer accreditation and the rules operating at the time.
Rebate amounts should not be treated as a fixed product discount. Compare the complete installed cost after any eligible incentives, plus system capacity, warranty, expected energy use and the suitability of the installation location.
Will an Emerald Heat Pump Fit My Existing Location?
All-in-one heat pumps are taller and mechanically more complex than many conventional electric cylinders. HWO’s current PRO 270L listing is approximately 600 × 600 × 1826mm, while the PRO 320L is approximately 600 × 600 × 2105mm. Check the exact model dimensions, filled weight, access route and service clearances before ordering.
Heat pumps also need unrestricted airflow and a condensate drain path. Avoid locations where fan/compressor noise can disturb bedrooms or neighbours. HWO’s current PRO 270L and 320L specifications list about 49dB(A) at 1m in Standard mode and 45dB(A) at 1m in Silent mode under stated conditions.

Emerald Energy Warranty & Maintenance
Emerald warranty coverage is model-specific and can separate the tank, refrigeration components, general parts and service coverage. Check the exact warranty document for the model you are buying rather than applying one warranty period to every Emerald heat pump.
Magnesium Anodes
HWO’s current Emerald PRO E-Heater specifications use an enamel inner tank with dual magnesium anodes. Anode condition and water quality can affect long-term cylinder protection.
Installer First for Physical Faults
Emerald’s support process directs hot-water heat-pump owners to contact their installer first for physical product faults, with Emerald support available where the issue requires manufacturer involvement.
App & Digital Support
Software, connectivity and configuration issues can be handled through Emerald’s digital support resources separately from plumbing or refrigeration faults.
Keep the Exact Model Number
PRO, Select and Split models have different hardware and specifications. Keep the model and serial details for warranty, troubleshooting and future replacement.
Common Emerald Energy Heat Pump Problems
A heat pump that stops producing hot water does not automatically need complete replacement. Power supply, controller settings, timers, temperature sensors, fan operation, compressor faults, refrigerant-system faults or plumbing issues can all affect performance.
No Hot Water
Emerald’s troubleshooting material first checks power, controller status and tank-temperature sensing. Licensed electrical or refrigeration diagnosis may be required if basic checks do not resolve the issue.
Intermittent Hot Water
Emerald notes that incorrect wiring to an off-peak circuit or an unintended controller timer can affect hot-water availability on all-in-one systems.
Water at the TPR Valve
Some intermittent relief-valve discharge can be normal during heating. Persistent leakage or excessive mains pressure should be assessed by a licensed plumber.
Error Codes
Emerald controller documentation includes codes for sensor, fan, compressor, communications and protection faults. Use the correct model guide and qualified service provider for diagnosis.
Buying an Emerald Energy Heat Pump Supply Only
Choose the Emerald system first, then check delivery and add only the valves, pipework, fittings or accessories required for the job. For a replacement, the existing system capacity, dimensions, power supply and a clear photo of the installation make product matching much easier.
